She's a Little Runaway

I ran away for a few days. But I’m back. And I was never that far. And I did what I needed to do.

I suppose we all have our runaway stories. My kids have both done it- or at least attempted it.
Not sure what that says about me as a Mommy.
Granted neither one of them got far, they were definitely missed and certainly the reason behind the attempt wasn’t taken lightly.

I know I had my share of runaway attempts growing up. The worst part was when I’d thought I’d runaway from home- had packed my favorite …

I love knowing interesting people.

I am easily bored. I used to move alot. And change jobs. And travel. And go out. And drink and… well, let’s just say, use other things to distract me. yes, that all helped. Sort of like a bandaid.
But now I am older and supposed to be wiser, I burrow in my brain and make my own escapes and sometimes when I am lucky …
I step out in the world and find magnificently interesting people.

Like Diego.

ENJOY.

You can censor me but you can't shut me down. Just ask my husband.

So, I went to a party. No news there.

I took pictures. No news there.
I let people draw on me. No news there.
I posted a picture of the drawing on Facebook. No news there.

Until… a few hours later when FB gave me a warning, then pulled it.

So, I’m posting the picture here.
No news there.
My new best friend, Kathleen drew that lovely anatomically correct body part, though some of the guys thought it a bit stubby and stubbly. My arm was the guinea pig for her art, as she boasted it was her forte’ in

Insanity is super sanity.

“For me, insanity is super sanity. The normal is psychotic. Normal means lack of imagination, lack of creativity.
Jean Dubuffet

I love that. After a week of writing, getting lost in alternate worlds and spending more time in my head puzzle solving, inventing and musing, it can be hard to bring myself back to reality- in whatever form. Though I will never be as bizarre as the artists below, I love them for their creativity, for their imagination, for their bravery. I wish I had more friends like that, people who understand that it’s much too easy to be

Say it to me now.

I have never made a game of relationships. I am so much “all or nothing- love me or leave me alone” that I am really tossed about by people who put so much energy into NOT saying something. It takes all kinds to make the world go around, I get that, and as I research some disturbed individuals for the new novel, it all feels a little squirrelly. Not DEXTER weird, but close… the deeper I go with the story, the more I want to stand up and shout with Glen.

And if you like that? There’s another Glen Hansard …

Feast of Love: add this movie to your list

Sometimes you read a novel and think: This is beautiful. I can’t write like this. And then you hear it’s been picked up, and you worry that Hollywood will ruin it.
And then you watch it and cry and laugh and remember why you loved the characters in the book and you think, okay, I can do this, and how wonderful would it be if the words on my page came out as crying, laughing, smiling, loving people on a forty foot screen.

BTW
I met Charles Baxter in New York, told him how much I loved the book and …

Tired of Remakes and Reruns.

Musicians do it all the time. Sometimes I like the remakes better, and yes, both artists reap the benefits, also the songwriter. When authors do it, you have to look a little harder, but still it’s there. Of course, Hollywood does it ALL the time. These are just a few of their unoriginal additions to TV and film.

When is enough enough? I’m not even going to go into the fact that most of America’s popular TV shows were stolen from other countries and remade…. it’s downright embarrassing.
More and more I believe in the 7/20/36 plot theory. Especially when …

Got that Beatles song, Tax Man on my mind today.

After a few hours in a hot stuffy office pushing a bunch of receipts across a clutttered desk, punching numbers, signing papers and challenging my memory- followed by a really weird Korean noodle lunch, I’m home measuring, sketching and planning to update the kids bath– because I need some MORE distractions while I rewrite 100 pages of manuscript, you know- multitasking is my forte.
I can only hope Home Depot Expo and all their helpers will work out better for me than when I played GC and remodeled the master bath, with the old man and his lazy son.…
