Eat Pray Love. Read.

Did you ever read a book and find yourself nodding your head so much that you felt like one of those bobble dolls in the rear window of a 1972 Charger?
And then I went to her website.

Tired of Remakes and Reruns.
Musicians do it all the time. Sometimes I like the remakes better, and yes, both artists reap the benefits, also the songwriter. When authors do it, you have to look a little harder, but still it’s there. Of course, Hollywood does it ALL the time. These are just a few of their unoriginal additions to TV and film.

When is enough enough? I’m not even going to go into the fact that most of America’s popular TV shows were stolen from other countries and remade…. it’s downright embarrassing.
More and more I believe in the 7/20/36 plot theory. Especially when …
Mr. Follett makes the sexy time.
My book reading pace slowed when my friend Karen lent me this book.
It is a long one, and while interesting, I could have cut at least 50 pages out of the front section, at least another 50- 100 in the middle, and geez, what’s with the ADVERBS, Ken?
But dang, do I want William to DIE. At the hand of a woman. oh yeah.
And my my, Mr. Follett, you do write the LOVE scenes. I’ll never bath in a creek the same again. ( I know why Oprah liked this.)
Trying to finish it today so I can …
Learning from the pros.
Last night, my pal Liz and I went to hear Joshilyn Jackson speak at The Margaret Mitchell House in lovely downtown Atlanta. We arrived early- in the hot car- so we could enjoy drinks and dinner at The Vortex. Liz wanted to order the Big Naked Weenie, but settled for a veggie melt. Walking in the guy at the bar tells us pointing to the TV- “Oh man, you just missed it! The longest EVER car chase in LA.”
yeah, darn.
Double darn that the MM house wasn’t open for tours. I have almost read ALL the letters Margaret’s …
For JOSHILYN: say it Joss-alynn
This is part love- part contest. I bid on a basket of books at a writer’s conference last Fall, all because THIS book was in it. I beat out a bunch of old ladies and a few beefy men and then I had to haul all 30 books home. It was worth it, for TGWSS. LOVED LOVED LOVED it. *sigh*
I met Joshilyn at a meeting for the Atlanta Writer’s Club. She wowed us with her stage presence and energy. I can still hear her imitating her agent’s voice as she told us the story of selling her first manuscript. …
I'll bet this designer loves Carol Burnett.
It’s getting close to choosing a Project Runway winner. Of course I cheated and downloaded all the fashion week photos days and days ago, feeling for a brief moment like the rich front row gal with the clipboard and an order form- though probably even in my daydream I was only the assistant to the rich girl- my other life phase- the buyer. First I skimmed them trying to see Christian’s flair, Chris’s showmanship, Rami’s drapery and Jillian’s classic style tweaked to runway edge- boy was I surprised to see SweetP’s collection. Life and reality TV- so not the same …
words that need to be read aloud
Do you do this? Read passages out loud to whomever is in the room? Or to yourself? Have you laughed out loud, snorted or merely grinned as you read a book in public?
here’s me:
HAHAHAHAHA, I say holding up the book, reciting a bit of Harlen Coben dialogue, or a snippet of a Tom Franklin story- anything from George Singleton, ALL of McSweeney’s lists.
And when I found Chelsey Minnis’, BAD BAD
I couldn’t stop finding someone to share it with.
Hey, listen to this:
“…. You look good, You feel good, But you’re bad bad. You’re a swan, …
words words words
I read three books last weeks- or five- if you also count the novel manuscript I read twice while editing. I wrote three short pieces, a few blog entries, the letter of intent for a workshop I want to attend, four pages and three new sentences to a longer work in progress- of which I kept the three sentences – and a few love letter emails to authors I adore.
My life is in words.
In the shower, I write on the glass door until the steam overtakes the last “e” then I write more. Some days it’s a list, …
Unpacking my head.
After a few days of jam-packing information into my skull, I was happy to veg in front of the 130 incher and see LOST. Good to have the familiar faces back. I wasn’t wowed, but I wasn’t disappointed, but I decided to stay away from web pages that promise clues and insider info. I am content to just things play out.
So, New York.
Let’s take it slow.
This is Charles Baxter.
He wrote some AMAZING books, like my fav, THE FEAST OF LOVE. I’ll open to a random page:
“The Bat was shorter than Oscar, more kind of pint-sized, …
The best non-required reading.
TIN HOUSE.
I am a whore for this literary magazine. Every time a new one arrives I DEVOUR it. It makes me think I am not nuts. It makes me want to be a better writer. It makes me believe I am. It talks to me like a lover on a train going nowhere fast. It sinks into me and changes me and I like being liquid black and white, rubbing words over my skin and feeling uncomfortable, naked, raw.
Aldous Huxley said,
“But I don’t want comfort. I want God. I want poetry, I want real danger, I …
